Ginger Lily + Indian Valerian + Wild Vetiver
Hedychium spicatum Sm. - Ginger Lily Root (Kapoor Kachri)
Origin: India
Plant part: Roots
Source: Wildcrafted
Method: Steam-distilled
Description
Ginger Lily Root (Kapoor Kachri) Essential Oil is a real find. Kapoor Kachri is the Indian Spiked Ginger Lily. The essential oil is made from the root and has an earthiness and depth and slowly rising from within that a note of hidden light. It gets the blood flowing. It makes us aware of our circulation and the hidden rivers of energy in our body. Along with circulation it helps with respiration. It reminds us that we are always part of the flow, of water, of air, of time. It takes us into the depths of the earth, reminds us that the process that breaks down the old, creates the fuel for the new. There’s a top note that uniquely emerges only slowly after the base notes, like the seed of light from the darkness. It helps with grief and memory. It helps us let go. Its inner blend of earth and celestial realms makes it really magical.
Ginger Lily Root touches a turning point within of what needs to be let go of so deep transformation and healing can take place. It touches the heart and allows love to flow. This creates a feeling of vulnerability and gentleness that seems to ooze from all one’s cells. Tears of joy, sweetness and love can flow. At the same time the earthy notes keep things grounded and help us move on in our lives. To us it’s the new emblematic aroma of the Mortificatio stage, since we have chosen to no longer use Palo Santo, because it is critically endangered. We have been looking for a replacement for Palo Santo due to sustainability issues and we thought this may be the one. However, it appears there may be sustainability issues regarding this oil, which Jah is continuing to research. This is why we are selling it in 2ml bottles only. This could well be the only batch we sell.
Valeriana jatamansi Jones - Indian Valerian
Plant part: Root
Origin: India
Source: Wildcrafted
Method: Steam-distilled
Description
Indian Valerian (Sughand Bala) has a vanilla-like note that balances out the earthier base notes and therefore doesn’t have the pungency of Valeriana officinalis. This oil smells very similar to a good Spikenard and we feel it’s an adequate substitute, since we have decided to no longer work with Spikenard. It covers up like a warm blanket and lulls us into comfort and ease. It relaxes the body and mind. This valerian is in the same botanical family as spikenard and has some similar notes. It really brings us deep down into ourselves and onto the earth, even further sometimes. It is a very strong ally for underworld/shadow work. A bottle left open by the bed enhances sleep, too. We feel that Indian Valerian might be a more sustainable replacement for spikenard, which is critically endangered and almost extinct.
Previously our research indicated that Indian Valerian was also threatened, though not critically endangered. Recently Moosa told us that his Indian Valerian is from a cultivated source and thus not endangering wild populations. So we are very happy to be able to offer Indian Valerian again.
Vetiveria zizanioides - Ruh Khus (Wild Vetiver)
Origin: India
Plant part used: Root
Source: Wildcrafted
Method: Hydro-distillation
Description
Wild Vetiver Essential Oil (Ruh Khus) – Vetiver is an important oil in our work and so we are really excited to find this one that has been harvested in the Kannuaj area where it was distilled. Ruh Khus is the traditional name for the essential oil distilled from wild vetiver. It has a deeply earthy pulse with a slightly smoky note, which then leads into a smell of texture. The texture of embodiment, grounded reality and dried, cut wood.
Vetiver encourages us let go of using the intellect as our armor or castle. It invites us to really feel at home in our bodies and discover what it feels like to fully live and be present in our physical bodies. By building a solid, loving relationship with our physical bodies, we begin to feel more confident and centered. Our feelings, thoughts, emotions and interactions are anchored in our flesh and bones.
Please note that this is not an attar, since vetiver yields a lot of essential oil and the attar process is not required.
